Regents' Scholarship

Regents' Scholars entering in Fall will receive a monetary honorarium (final amount subject to federal and state financial aid regulations). The scholarship may be renewed if students are in compliance with the terms and conditions as outlined in the Regents’ Scholarship webpage.  The scholarship may be renewed for three additional consecutive years for incoming Freshmen and one additional consecutive year for incoming Transfer students from the initial year of tenure.

On-campus housing at UC Irvine continues to be in high demand.  Freshmen enrolling in the Fall will be guaranteed four years of on-campus housing and Transfer Students enrolling in Fall will be guaranteed two years of on-campus housing if the Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) and a housing application are completed by the stated deadlines. The housing guarantee ensures an offer of on-campus housing during the term of the scholarship if application deadlines are met. Specific housing preferences are not guaranteed. Regents' Scholars have graduate-level borrowing privileges. Borrowing periods for documents are extended from 28 days to one quarter (10 weeks).

Recipients will receive an annotation on their transcript for each year they maintain their status as a Regents' Scholar.

Regents' Scholars choosing to participate in the University of California Education Abroad Program may use their scholarship to help fund the cost of overseas study.

Regents' Scholars who participate in the UC Irvine Washington DC Academic Internship Program may use their scholarship to help fund the cost of the program.

Appointments as freshmen are automatically renewable for an additional three consecutive years and appointments as entering transfer students are renewable for one additional consecutive year beyond their initial year of tenure as long as eligibility requirements continue to be met. All appointments are subject to annual review prior to automatic renewal. Regents' Scholarships are not transferable. Students transferring to another UC campus will be subject to the awarding policies and procedures of that campus.

Regents' Scholars are required to enroll and complete a minimum of twelve (12) units per quarter at UC Irvine during their tenure as a Regents' Scholar and make normal progress toward a baccalaureate degree. A minimum cumulative 3.25 grade point average is required to automatically renew the Regents' Scholarship each year.

To be eligible for the Regents' Scholarship, students must be a U.S. citizen, an eligible non-citizen, or students qualifying under AB130 or AB131. Only students who fall under these categories are eligible for the Regents' Scholarship.

Regents' Scholars are required to notify the UCI Scholarships department in the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships of any change in academic status, such as taking fewer than twelve (12) units per quarter or withdrawing from the university.

A Regents' Scholar who has been granted an official leave of absence from the University must notify the Scholarships department in the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships in order to retain their appointment as a Regents' Scholar during the remainder of their designated tenure period.
